Cloister of San Francesco

The Cloister of San Francesco is among the oldest monuments of Sorrento (XIV century) and is located in the center of the city; it combines styles from the fourteenth century with elements from later periods, remains of pagan temples and of ancient settlements.
Located near the church with the same name and the Villa Comunale “Salve D ‘Esposito”, this impressive structure is a few dozen meters away from the house where the famous poet Torquato Tasso lived and close to other important monuments of Sorrento.

tasso theatre

The Tasso Theatre is located in the center of Sorrento, near the renowned Piazza Tasso.
Its name derives from the Italian poet and writer Torquato Tasso who was born in Sorrento on March 11th, 1554.

The Curreri bus leaves from Capodichino Airport terminal and reaches Sorrento in a little over an hour. The ticket can be purchased directly on board and costs 10 euros. The bus stop is located in front of the airport arrivals gate. The bus gets there 10 minutes before departure and operates every day except for December 25th and January 1st. There is enough available space for the luggage: you can have a comfortable and relaxing travel admiring the extraordinary panorama of the peninsula of Sorrento.

Piazza Garibaldi Station is the point of arrival of high-speed trains coming from Milan, Florence and Rome. On the lower floor there is the Circumvesuviana station where you can find local trains going from Naples to Sorrento. The ticket costs less than 4 euros.

Please note:

  • The journey takes 1 hour and 10 minutes, with many in between stops. Sorrento is the last stop on the line
  • The Circumvesuviana is a commuter train and it can be very crowded
  • The train is quite punctual and it is generally the quickest and cheapest way to reach Sorrento

Bus
Rome-Salerno

If you leave from Rome, you can also take the Marozzi bus from Rome to Sorrento. It takes about 4 hours but offers guaranteed seating, luggage space and no change.
The bus leaves every day from Roma Tiburtina at 7.00 and at 15.00


By car

Getting to Sorrento by car is quite simple, the only problem can be the traffic.


By boat

One of the most beautiful and relaxing ways to get to Sorrento is with the hydrofoil from Naples. The Napoli – Sorrento line is active all year round, it departs from Molo Beverello. You can reach the port of Naples with the Alibus that departs from Naples Capodichino.

Please note:

  • The hydrofoil takes 40 minutes
  • From the beginning of November to the end of March it doesn’t run on Saturdays and Sundays
  • The ticket costs about 12 euros plus a supplement of 2 euros for suitcases
  • The service can be suspended in case of rough sea
  • To get from the port of Sorrento to the center it is necessary to follow an uphill road and climb a hundred steps. There are buses and taxis at the port
